What should I wear for my photoshoot?
I am often asked "What do we need to wear for my photos/our family photos?" It's important to choose coordinating, NOT matching, outfits with a focus on solid, neutral, or muted colors.
I used this picture of a session I did about a month ago as a perfect example of color coordination/selection. While Dominique bent the "rules" on wearing print, it works wonderfully with the colors her kiddos and husband wore, works with the environment, and I thought they turned out perfect!
Alright now, here's some tips for you and your family to look their best!
1. Choose a color palette to match the environment. For example, if you have your photos done in a field of flowers, choose bright, colorful solid colors for each member of you photos. You can find these on Pinterest, Google search, etc or you can ask me for recommendations!
2. Avoid distractions on your outfits such as large logos, busy patterns/prints, or distracting graphics. Keep you and yours the focus!
3. Make sure your outfits are comfortable but well fit. I tend to use natural light in outdoor settings so weather is definitely a factor. You don't want to be freezing during cooler weather...it will show in your face and body in the pics. Baggy or ill-fitting clothes can be unflattering, but if that is your style, go for it!
4. Consider adding texture and layers. Knits, corduroy, linen or lace can elevate your outfits and add depth to the photos. Layers like scarves, cardigans, jackets can add visual interest and can allow variations of outfits during your session.
5. Keep true to your personal style! These photos are to represent you and yours! Keep it real!
6. If ever in doubt or you need some help, please reach out and I can give you suggestions!
Keep in mind, these are suggestions, not rules. They can be bent, broken, etc to make the photos turn out fabulous! I hope these recommendations help to make your photos the best they can be, whether they are with me or another photographer!
